Whenever my husband Bryan makes dinner, it early always is on the grill. And not a gas grill, as he's quick to point out. He made these burgers a few nights ago and unfortunately, all I had time for was one quick, dark, iPhone photo. While he was making these babies up, I was writing down his ingredients, measurements and instructions and he couldn't resist throwing in a few unsolicited words of advice: if you have a gas grill, stop here and return when you have a charcoal grill. And, my favorite; Use any kind of cheese to top your burgers, except American... ick! Do you use a gas grill? It's definitely faster and less cumbersome than a charcoal grill. And to be honest, a little American cheese never hurt anybody!
The Perfect Hamburger Patty
serves 5
Ingredients
1 pound ground beef
1 egg, lightly beaten
2 tablespoons A1 Sauce
1/4 of a white onion, finely minced
1 teaspoon kosher salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/3 cup Parmesan cheese
Instructions
1. Light your grill.
(We do not use a gas grill, only charcoal or wood
so getting the coals to the right temperature can take anywhere from 30 minutes
to an hour. If you're using a gas grill do what you do to get it to the right
temperature.)
2.In a large bowl combine all of the ingredients for the patties. Mix
using your hands, being careful not to squeeze the mixture, or use a
fork and lightly fluff everything together until combined. Once everything is
combined, form into patties.
(We make them about 1 inch thick) layer
patties on a large plate, between layers of parchment or wax paper, and
refrigerate.
3. Grill patties until
desired doneness.
Top with cheese about 3 minutes before you will pull them off.
(We
like them medium)
4. Put patties on prepared buns, (we like Kaiser rolls with a little
ketchup and mustard spread inside) Top with lettuce, tomato, onion,
avocado, a fried egg, caramelized onions, bacon, whatever you'd like!
Terrible photo in the dead of night, by me
